Kevin's Story

The Path to Becoming a Financial Planner

Kevin grew up as the son of a small business owner, learning firsthand the challenges and rewards of running a business. As an undergraduate student at James Madison University, he double-majored in Media Arts and Economics, combining a love of storytelling with a curiosity about how money shapes our lives.

He began his career in corporate banking during the Great Recession—an experience that quickly reinforced the importance of managing debt, building emergency reserves, and planning for uncertainty. Over the next decade, Kevin worked closely with individuals and business owners while earning his MBA with a concentration in Finance.

Over time, as the banking industry grew larger and more transactional, he realized he missed the part of the work he valued most: building meaningful, personal relationships with clients. An opportunity to teach finance at JMU’s College of Business ignited his passion for education and ultimately led him to earn the Certified Financial Planner® designation in 2022.

The Partnership

How Kevin Works With Clients

At the heart of Kevin’s work is one simple goal: reducing financial anxiety so families can live their lives fully.

Kevin takes an educator’s approach to financial planning. Rather than telling clients what to do, he focuses on explaining options, outlining trade-offs, and helping them make informed decisions.

By intentionally limiting the number of families he serves, Kevin is able to stay deeply involved, responsive, and present. For many clients, he becomes the first call during both celebrations and challenges—whether that’s a new job, a growing family, a loss, or a major life transition.

Sharing His Knowledge

Education at the Core

Teaching remains a central part of Kevin’s identity. As an instructor at James Madison University, he brings the same philosophy to the classroom that he offers to his clients: financial knowledge should be accessible, practical, and shared.

Kevin believes that deep understanding leads to better decision-making. By sharing knowledge openly—whether with students, clients, or the broader community—he hopes to increase financial literacy and help people feel more capable of navigating their financial lives.

Community Engagement

Giving Back Where it counts

Kevin’s commitment to the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County community runs deep. His passion for service has long been rooted in economic development and creating pathways for others to grow, build stability, and move forward.

Over the years, he has served on nonprofit boards, civic organizations, and advisory groups focused on strengthening the local economy and supporting long-term opportunity. His involvement isn’t about recognition—it’s about giving back to the community that he calls home.
